Zach and Carl have both recently blogged about this topic, and I know that there is a quaker-originated (but intentionally not quaker-exclusive) cohousing group here in the twin cities (which is, from what I hear, pretty well-established, but as yet building-less) I was thinking about starting a yahoo group for discussion of things like:
Intentional Community
Sustainability
Earthcare
Land Stewardship
Living in an ecologically friendly manner
Faith as the center of intentional community
Is there interest in this?
I personally feel that many radical changes in the current american lifestyle are imperitive for the well being of humanity on earth.
(I really hate "save the earth" rhetoric - it's really about saving the earth as a place habitable to us, I believe that Mars is probably as happy with its planet-ness as the earth. I don't know if the earth would miss us, should we kill ourselves off, but I know that we will miss what it offers us, should we destroy it)
And have a wistful hope that quakers could be some of the prominent "movers and shakers" in a very important back-to-the-land eco-movement.
Anyone with me??

I don't think i'm ready to participate in a yahoo group on the topic, but i think it's a useful discussion to foster. (I'd lurk!)
I'm with you on the "save the earth" rhetoric. I was participating in a survey about religious/spiritual beliefs and environmental concerns that did seem to blur sustaining the current culture with "saving the earth."
Rolene Walker is working on a project that deals with sustainability. My spouse and i had discussed intentional living with her, too, but we couldn't all get on the same time line. You can read about her project to some extent here: http://walkwithearth.org/
Oh some friends and I talked about it once... it was a good idea, our humaness got in the way, I am afraid... to bad... I was very in love with the idea.

Yes, A Community of Light.......
The 1st Day of Creation
"The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of GOD moved upon the face of the waters." (Gen 1:2)
Then GOD spoke HIS Word into being.......
"Let there be Light"!
And "There was Light".......
And such 'Light' was to be, and is, Eternal!
So Hope is Alive!
Even though this wicked world begins and ends it's day in darkness it is good to realize that the 1st Day of Creation, although begun midst the darkness, ended in 'Light'!
And such 'Light' was not the sun, moon or stars for they were not created until the 4th Day.
GOD's Word "Let there be Light" became "The Light which enlightens every man born into the world" and was "the glory The Messiah had with Our Father before the world began".......
LIGHT Begot Light.......
The Messiah, "The Light of the world"(Jn8:12).......
The Messiah, "The beginning of The Creation of GOD"(Rev1:1, 3:14).......
The Messiah, "The Son of The Living GOD".......
And Our Father, HE "created all things by(of, in and thru) The Messiah" (Ep3:9).......
The 1st Day of Creation.
"And GOD called The Light, Day, and the darkness HE called night. And the evening(darkness) and the morning(Light) was the 1st day." (Gen 1:5)
Now if the beginning can not be 'seen' nor understood, then what of the end?
Confusion would reign! And today confusion does reign midst the religious systems of this world, and especially those who believe in a three headed pagan 'god', for apart from "The Light" there is only darkness, "the blind leading the blind" ;-(
Peace, in spite of the dis-ease(no-peace) that is of this world and it's systems of religion "for the WHOLE(not just a portion) world is under the control of the evil one"(1JN5:19) indeed and Truth.......
Truth IS, a lie is not.......
Abide in The Truth.......
